Foundations offers explicit, systematic, multi-sensory, research-based early literacy instruction, as well as reading intervention and dyslexia support. Teachers are trained in the science of teaching reading and the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction.
Individualized programs have been developed to meets the needs of students at different levels. Ultimately, the goal for instruction is to lay a foundation for literacy success for all students, by empowering them with the tools needed to "break the code," laying a strong foundation for reading readiness in early childhood and moving on to teaching students reliable patterns in the English language for decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling). Curriculum, pace and frequency of lessons are dependent upon the the age, developmental level and needs of the student.
Foundations takes a similar systematic, multisensory research based approach to teaching handwriting, reading comprehension, critical thinking skills and written language.
